A former UNU-LRT fellow from Niger, Mohamadou Habibou Gabou, attended a conference on Climate Change, Sustainable Intensification and Food Security in Sub-Saharan Africa, held in Morogoro, Tanzania last week or from 13-15 November. There he gave a talk titled Rehabilitation of Degraded Lands: Sustainable Land Management practices commonly used in Niger Republic, West Africa which was well received by the conference participants. The conference was hosted by the Sokoine University of Agriculture and dealt with issues such as land use and farming systems in Africa, smallholder adaptation to climate change and rehabilitation of degraded land through forestry and agro-forestry, to name a few.
Gabou Mohamadou Habibou graduated from the UNU-LRT six-month training programme in September this year and has thus very recently returned to his position at Ministry of Environment, Urban Sanitation and Sustainable Development in Niamey, Niger.
