Former fellow defends her PhD dissertation in Egypt
Nagwa Elnwishy, a former fellow from the first training course in 2007, recently defended her PhD at the Suez Canal University in Egypt. The title of her PhD project is: "Bio-remediation of some pharmaceutical residues in aquatic ecosystems“. The research was done in cooperation with Lund University in Sweden.
This is the first study in Egypt to monitor the endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs) residues in Egyptian soil and waters; rivers, lakes, irrigation and drinking waters. The study aimed to adapt a new technique for bioremediation of synthetic estrogenic chemicals suitable for the Egyptian environment. The main purpose of this work was to secure cleaner water for agriculture and animal use, and eventually protect human health.
The UNU-LRT team congratulates Dr. Nagwa Elnwishy and wishes her all the best.
