Collaborators from the National University of Lesotho visit GRÓ LRT
This week, GRÓ LRT has the honour to welcome three representatives from the National University of Lesotho (NUL): Professor Mosotho Joseph George, from the Department of Chemistry & Chemical Technology and Dean of Faculty of Science and Technology, Dr Mamohau Elizabeth Thamae, Senior Lecturer and Acting Director of the Water Institute at NUL, and Mrs Rethabile Joalane Marunye, Lecturer & Head of Department of Geography and Environmental Science.
The visit from NUL follows GRÓ LRT's visit to Lesotho in January of this year, during which collaborative efforts between NUL and GRÓ LRT regarding curriculum development for an ecosystem restoration study programme and/or short course, were discussed. These discussions have been furthered this week in meetings with our guests and Professor Ása L Aradóttir, the leader of the new Restoration Ecology Master’s programme at the Agricultural University of Iceland.
In addition to curriculum development meetings, Professor George, Dr Thamae, and Mrs Marunye gave a lecture to the GRÓ LRT fellows on integrated catchment management in Lesotho and the educational programmes at NUL that address land and water management. Furthermore, we have taken our guests to some of the barren areas in the interior of West Iceland and showed them ongoing restoration projects implemented by the Soil Conservation Service of Iceland in West Iceland and the Snæfellsnes peninsula. Other activities include visits to the headquarters of the Agricultural University of Iceland in Hvanneyri and to Thingvellir National Park.
The visit from the National University of Lesotho is a part of GRÓ LRT and NUL´s Erasmus+ Mobility Project, running from 2022-2024.
