Annual field excursion of UNU-LRT six-month training
In July and August, the 2012 UNU-LRT fellows participated in field excursions, which are essential part of the UNU-LRT six-month training course. In previous years this activity has included one-week excursion but this year it involved two 3-day trips. In July, northern and western Iceland was visited and in August, southern and south-eastern Iceland.
In the field excursions, the fellows were introduced to different land use practices in Iceland, land degradation problems and how they have been combated, research and work with small communities as well as Icelandic culture and conservation work. The fellows had many good opportunities during the excursions to discuss and exchange knowledge with farmers, district consultants of the Soil Conservation Service, park wardens as well as among themselves.
