Description
This three week event was co-organized by the United Nations University Geothermal Training Programme (UNU-GTP), Geothermal Development Company (GDC) and Kenya Electricity Generating Company, Ltd. (KenGen).
The course was a continuation of similar geothermal exploration courses held in Kenya in previous years. The country has great plans for geothermal utilization in the immediate future and the need for capacity building is therefore significant. The greatest effort is presently on the exploration of resources, but the needs are expected to shift to utilization and monitoring in the future. The course was attended by 58 participants from 14 African countries and 1 from Yemen, which shares many geological features with the Rift Valley region.
