WGC2023 – Postponed until October

The World Geothermal Congress (WGC2023) has been postponed until October, 2023 in Beijing, China.  The exact timing of the event is to be announced shortly.

Original timing of the event was to be on April 17-21, 2023.  Due to ongoing uncertainty regarding scheduling and organising a global event under the zero-Covid policy in China, the International Geothermal Association (IGA) and the National Geothermal Energy Center of China (CNGEC) are announcing that the World Geothermal Congress 2023 is postponed to a later date in October 2023. The exact timing of the event is to be announced shortly.

The IGA and CNGEC truly believe this decision is the best possible path forward that will lead to a globally successful event for our community. Further information on the event such as sponsorships, exhibitor packages and registration details will be coming online in October 2022.

The deadline for paper submissions to the technical programme is extended with three months to effectively 31 December 2022.

As for the last five World Geothermal Congresses, GRÓ GTP is aiming to support a number of former Fellows, submitting a paper as first authors, in attending the Congress. Please note that this Fellowship is exclusively for Fellows graduated from the Six Month Training at GTP. Preference will be given to individuals from low-income countries. We are seeking the support of the Government of Iceland to be able to assist the many expected applications from former Fellows wanting to attend and present at the Congress in Beijing and reunite with GTP and other fellows. The amounts will be announced later on, but they are expected to provide partial coverage of the costs of attending the Congress as in previous years.

Further information on the fellowships will be announced at a later point.
