27 October 2023

As part of the Six-Month Training at GRÓ GTP, an internationally renowned guest lecturer is invited most years as a Visiting Lecturer to give a lecture series and to have discussions with the current six-month fellows. Most lectures of previous Visiting Lecturers have been published by GTP and are available for download under publications.

The visiting lecturer of 2023 is Prof. Dr. Eva Schill from Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), Germany. She has a PhD in geophysics and has been extensively involved in geothermal exploration and development in recent decades, including studies of deep geothermal resources, EGS-development, underground heat storage and more. In addition, she has been heavily involved in geothermal education through her work at five universities in Germany and Switzerland. She currently leads the Geoenergy group at KIT as well as being professor at the Technical University of Darmstadt, Germany. She is the author and co-author of numerous scientific papers involving geothermal research as well as leading large research projects and facilities on subsurface heat-storage and deep reservoirs.

Prof. Dr. Eva Schill will give four lectures (each ~40 min) on the following topics:

Tuesday 31st Oct. 10:00-12:00
1. Low-temperature deep geothermal systems: an overview
2. EGS technology: state of research and outlook

Wednesday 1 Nov. 10:00-12:00
3. Heat storage in the underground
4. New approaches in interaction with public

Location:
The lectures will take place at Mannvit in Urdarhvarf 6, 203 Kópavogur
