Visit of UK’s Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for International Development
9 February 2012
The UK’s Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for International Development, Stephen O‘Brien visited the UNU-GTP on Thursday the 9th of February. The minister came to Iceland to
learn about the various ways in which the country uses it‘s geothermal resources.
His visit to the GTP was to learn how the GTP assists developing countries in capacity building within geothermal exploration and development in the world, but especially in African countries.
The minister was also keen to know if the UK could further it’s use of geothermal resources. In addition, he was very interested in the main barriers of establishing a geothermal plant in
the developing countries, and how long the process is, in general from a geological exploration of a potential geothermal area to building a commercially viable geothermal power plant.
