On the 1st of June, the UNU-GTP held its annual seminar on geothermal development in the home countries of the Fellows attending the six month programme. The seminar gave an interesting overview of geothermal development in 16 developing countries. Some countries have made a great deal of progress in geothermal development, whereas others have only just started exploring their geothermal potential. There were several new topics on the agenda, since Bangladesh, Morocco and Sri Lanka are joining the UNU-GTP for the first time. Also this year is the first year to include a Fellow (Liu Junrong) engaged in research related to the oil industry. Liu Junrong gave a presentation on the potential for utilizing geothermal resources as a means of lifting highly viscous heavy oil reserves to the surface.
