WGC2015 Fellowships

3 February 2015

The World Geothermal Congress (WGC2015) will be held 19-25 April, 2015 in Melbourne, Australia.

This Congress has been held every 5 years since 1995 and as for the last three World Geothermal Congresses, the United Nations University Geothermal Training Programme is supporting a number of former UNU-GTP Fellows in attending the Congress in Melbourne.

The UNU-GTP received many applications for the Congress this year, and like previous years it was unfortunately not possible to provide fellowships with full coverage of all costs.

The fellowships are awarded through the International Geothermal Association (IGA) and are subject to the same conditions as other fellowships granted by IGA, see: http://wgc2015.com.au/fellowships.php

The UNU-GTP fellowships were meted out to the applicants with respect to their country’s income using the IGA classification as a guide, which is based on information from the World Bank.  Fellowships were only offered to low income countries out of which there were three categories, i.e. high income (1500 USD), middle income (2000 USD), and low income (2500 USD).  The UNU-GTP granted the maximum possible amount to as many fellows as possible and is the biggest sponsor of participants at the WGC2015 to date with over 100 fellowships awarded.

Hopefully the fellowship will become of good use to all the recipients and we hope to see most of you, if not all, in Australia in April.
