The Rector of UNU visited the Iceland Programmes
Last week, the Rector of UNU, Dr David Malone, visited the four Iceland based UNU Programmes: UNU-GTP, UNU-FTP, UNU-LRT, and UNU-GEST. He was accompanied by the UNU Vice Rector Mr Max Bond.
The staff and Fellows of UNU-GTP welcomed him at Orkustofnun along with the Director General, Dr Guðni A. Jóhannsson. The Fellows introduced themselves and held a small talk about their background and studies. Afterwards the Rector headed out to the Soil Conservation Service of Iceland for a short workshop where the director of UNU-GTP, Lúðvík S. Georgsson introduced the activities of the Programme through its operations in Iceland and around the world. Two Fellows, Thecla Mutia, PhD Fellow and Tufwane Mwagomba, MSc Fellow, also presented their project work and their future aspirations within the geothermal sector.
The Rector also had a chance to meet with the President Mr Ólafur Ragnar Grímsson, the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mr Gunnar Bragi Sveinsson, and the former president Ms Vigdís Finnbogadóttir.
Dr Malone joined the United Nations University in 2013 and is the sixth Rector of UNU. In that role, he holds the rank of Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations. We are delighted and honoured to have had the chance to welcome him to Iceland and host his visit.
