The 42nd session of the GRÓ GTP
The 42nd session of the GRÓ GTP opened on Tuesday 1st of June.
Of course, this session was scheduled for last year but due to the COVID pandemic, it was postponed to this year. Furthermore, due to limitations presented by the pandemic, the start of the course was pushed back to June whereas it usually starts in April.
This was also the first session under the new GRÓ umbrella and the UNESCO affiliation as well as our new host institute Iceland GeoSurvey - ÍSOR. The new Director of GRÓ GTP, Guðni Axelsson, welcomed the new group of Fellows in the opening ceremony which this time was online, where he went over the recent changes and the move from the United Nations University over to UNESCO and the establishment of the GRÓ Centre. Bjarni Gautason, Chief Project Manager at ÍSOR, welcomed the Fellows on behalf of the Director of the host institution ÍSOR.
This year 25 Fellows from 14 countries participate in the six month specialised courses. The Fellows come from Algeria 1, China 1, Colombia 1, Djibouti 1, Ecuador 2, El Salvador 2, Ethiopia 3, India 1, Indonesia 3, Iran 1, Kenya 6, Nicaragua 2, Philippines 1, and Uganda 1.
