Strong participation of UNU-GTP at WGC 2005

8 June 2005
The UNU policy to support the participation of former UNU Fellows in the WGC every five years has encouraged a large number of professionals from all continents to share their research results and experience with the international geothermal community. Their enthusiasm and hard work gives them the opportunity to keep up with new technical developments as well as the pleasure of meeting friends and colleagues from various parts of the world, reminisce about the past, and plan for the future.

At a reunion hosted by the UNU-GTP and the Ministry of Industry of Commerce, the UNU Fellows met with a large number of their teachers and supervisors from Iceland as well as UNU Visiting Lecturers from Germany, Japan, New Zeland, Poland, Switzerland, and the USA. The UNU-GTP director and the Icelandic Minister of Industry and Commerce, Mrs. Valgerdur Sverrisdottir, welcomed the UNU Fellows and other guests to the reunion and spoke about the excellent work UNU Fellows are conducting in the various parts of the world. The main speech of the reunion was given by Dr. Meseret Teklemariam, Head of  Hydrogeology, Engineering Geology and the Geothermal Department of the Geological Survey of Ethiopia.
