Short Course V on Conceptual Modelling of Geothermal Systems in El Salvador, held in El Salvador 24 February - 2 March 2013
The annual “UN Millennium Development Goals” Short Course in El Salvador was held in February 24 – March 2, 2013. The topic of the course was “Conceptual Modelling of Geothermal Systems” which drew a lot of interest. The course was attended by 61 participants from 12 countries all over Latin America and the Caribbean, including 5 Central American countries (Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua), 4 South American countries (Chile, Colombia, Ecuador and Peru), 2 Caribbean islands (Dominica and Nevis), and Mexico. To this number can be added 23 lecturers, 10 of whom came from the host country, 7 from neighbouring countries, 5 from Iceland plus 1 from the USA. The Millennium Short Courses in El Salvador have been reaching a wider area every year, and this year saw the addition of Peru to the list of participating countries. And this was actually the first time Peru participated in an official UNU-GTP event. The increased participation of the South American countries with their vast and largely untapped geothermal resources is especially interesting, and we hope to see representatives from these countries at the 6 month training in the near future. Papers written for this events in connection with the presented lectures were published on a CD in advance, which was distributed at the Short Course, and are now available at our website under Publication.
