Short Course on Well Design and Geothermal Drilling Technology is currently underway in Djibouti.  The course is held at the request of the International Development Cooperation of the Icelandic Ministry for Foreign Affairs (ICEIDA) and targeted towards employees of the Djiboutian Office for the Development of Geothermal Energy (ODDEG), the Djiboutian Centre for Studies and Research (CERD) and the Ministry of Agriculture.  The subject material is covered through lectures, exercises and group projects, with one day devoted to a field trip to the Assal area.  The short course, which started on May 14 and concludes on May 26, is attended by 23 participants.  Instruction is in the hands of Mr. Sverrir Thorhallsson, UNU-GTP Studies Board member and head of the Drilling Technology path in the 6 month studies, and Mr. Arnar Bjarki Árnason, UNU-GTP supervisor and engineer at Mannvit.
