Short Course on Utilization of Low- to Medium Enthalpy Geothermal Resources in Romania
Short Course on Utilization of Low- to Medium Enthalpy Geothermal Resources was held in Oradea, Romania, on April 4-8 in cooperation with the University of Oradea. The short course consisted of lectures, practical exercises and a field excursion, with the focus placed on direct utilization and electricity generation through binary power plants. The programme was tailored to conditions in Romania, which is mainly endowed with low- to medium enthalpy geothermal resources. Lecturing was carried out by Dr. Páll Valdimarsson, UNU-GTP Studies Board member and head of the Geothermal Utilization path in the 6 month training programme, Dr. Árni Ragnarsson, UNU-GTP lecturer and engineer at ÍSOR – Iceland GeoSurvey, and Dr. Marcel Rosca, Vice Rector of the University of Oradea.
The short course is part of a wider partnership agreement between UNU-GTP and the University of Oradea on geothermal training for Romanian professionals, which is supported by the RONDINE programme of the EEA Grants scheme, with facilitation by the Environment Fund Administration of the Romanian Ministry of Environment and Climate Change and Orkustofnun – the National Energy Authority of Iceland. The agreement covers the 6 month training of 4 Romanian geothermal professionals in Iceland in 2016 as well as a workshop for decision makers and three short courses to be held in Romania in 2016. The Short Course on Utilization of Low- to Medium Enthalpy Geothermal Resources will be followed up by a Short Course on Geothermal Resource Exploration and a Short Course on Resource Assessment and Management in the coming months.
