Official visit to the UNU-GTP from Rwanda

On Tuesday the 16th of June the UNU-GTP hosted an official visit by the Minister of Energy of Rwanda H.E. Albert Butare and the Ambassador of Rwanda to England H.E. Claver Gatete. The delegation came to discuss possibilities in geothermal in Rwanda and was introduced to The National Energy Authority of Iceland, Iceland GeoSurvey and the UNU-GTP. The delegation was assisted by current UNU-Fellow from Rwanda Uwera Rutagarama and Icelandic resident from Rwanda, Augustin Dufatanye.

Among the Icelandic part takers in the meeting were the Director of the National Energy Authority of Iceland Gudni A. Jóhannesson, Deputy director of Iceland GeoSurvey Bennedikt Steingrímsson, Halldór Ármannsson from Iceland GeoSurvey, Gestur Gíslason from Reykjavik Geothermal and Dorthe H. Holm representative of the UNU-GTP.

 

The first Rwandan UNU Fellow Théoneste Uhorakeye graduated from his six month training in Iceland in 2008. This year two Rwandan Fellows are undertaking six month training in Iceland, Uwera Rutagarama and Jean-Claude Nagaruye, both are expected to graduate in October.
