UNU-GTP celebrates 40 years of geothermal training
This year UNU-GTP celebrates its 40th anniversary as the Programme was founded in December 1978. On this occasion, special anniversary sessions were held at the Iceland Geothermal Conference 2018 at Harpan, Reykjavík.
The Minister of Industry and Innovation, Þórdís Reykfjörð Gylfadóttir, opened the sessions with an address from the Ministry, and Ludvik Georgsson the Director of UNU-GTP gave a presentation on the activities and history of the Programme since its establishment until today, followed by Ingimar Haraldsson, Deputy director, who gave a talk on the Sustainable Development Goals Short Course series in the partner developing countries. The honorary guests, former Fellows, who are in leading positions in the geothermal sector in their home countries were invited to give a short talk about their countries' geothermal development and the influence of the UNU-GTP training on that process.
The second session focused on the current fellows who introduced their PhD and MSc projects at University of Iceland and Reykjavík University.
All the papers and presentations from the anniversary sessions are available on the website under publication.
