New Director of GTP
At the end of 2019, Lúdvík Georgsson will step down as Director of UNU-GTP as he will have reached the Government retirement age limit of 70 years. Lúdvík has been the Director since Ingvar Fridleifsson retired in 2013. Before that Lúdvík was the Deputy Director since 1990. His years as a staff member therefore covers 30 years although he was involved in teaching and supervising Fellows since its establishment in 1979.
As of 1st of January 2020, the new Director Gudni Axelson will take over the position. He currently is the Chief Geophysicist at ISOR. Gudni has been teaching and supervising numerous Fellows for many years and served in the Studies Board as the head of the Reservoir Engineering study line. He has taken part in various other Programme activities, in addition to undertaking academic and research activities elsewhere. We welcome him aboard GTP.
On this occasion, we would again like to emphasise the name change of the Programme which as from 1st of January 2020 will become UNESCO GRÓ GTP instead of UNU-GTP. However, the activities and operations of GTP will remain the same for the unseen future.
