Mr. Younes Noorollahi from Iran (UNU Fellow 1999) defended on 19th January 2005 his thesis on the application of geographical information systems and remote sensing in environmental management of geothermal fields under exploitation. The thesis is entitled ”Application of GIS and remote sensing in exploration and environmental management of Namafjall geothermal area, N-Iceland”, and has been published by the UNU-GTP (see Yearbook 2005).

Mr. Purevsuren Dorj from Mongolia (UNU Fellow 2001) defended on 18th April 2005 his MSc thesis dealing with the modification of a coal fired heating and electric generation system to a geothermal system in Tsetserleg, Mongolia. The new system will include a Kalina cycle (binary) electric turbine. The thesis is entitled “Thermoeconomic analysis of a new geothermal utilization CHP plant in Tseterleg, Mongolia”, and has been published by the UNU-GTP (see Yearbook 2005).

Mr. Godfrey Bahati from Uganda (UNU Fellow 1993) is working on a MSc thesis dealing with an environmental impact assessment for the development of the Katwe and Kibiro geothermal systems in Uganda.

Mr. Kizito Opondo from Kenya (UNU Fellow 2002) is working on a MSc thesis dealing with corrosion and scaling in geothermal fields in Kenya and Iceland with emphasis on the theoretical aspects of hydrogen chloride gas transport as a corrosion agent.
