MSc Fellow

Two former UNU Fellows from Kenya who commenced their MSc studies in 2002 defended their MSc thesis and graduated from the University of Iceland in June in 2004. Gabriel N. Wetang’ula (UNU Fellow 2001) worked on the environmental aspects of the Olkaria geothermal field in Kenya (Wetang’ula, 2004), and John K. Lagat (UNU Fellow 1995) on the geology and alteration mineralogy of the same field (Lagat, 2004). Their MSc thesis have been published in the UNU-GTP publication series.

Two former UNU Fellows (from Iran and Mongolia) joined the MSc programme in August 2003 and one (from Uganda) commenced in January 2004. Younes Noorollahi from Iran (UNU Fellow 1999) is writing a thesis on the application of geographical information systems and remote sensing in environmental management of geothermal fields under exploitation. Purevsuren Dorj from Mongolia (UNU Fellow 2001) is working on a MSc thesis dealing with the modification of a coal fired heating and electric generation system to a geothermal system in Tsetserleg, Mongolia. The new system will include a Kalina cycle (binary) electric turbine. Godfrey Bahati from Uganda (UNU Fellow 1993) is working on a MSc thesis dealing with an environmental impact assessment for the development of the Katwe and Kibiro geothermal systems in Uganda.
