Graduation of Fellows 2015

The closing ceremony of the 36th annual session of the UNU-GTP was held on October 17, 2015, with 30 UNU Fellows graduating from the six month specialized courses. 

The Fellows came from 15 countries: Bolivia (1), China (1), Comoros (1), D.R. Congo (1), Djibouti (2), Ecuador (1), Ethiopia (2), Iran (2), Kenya (9), Malawi (1), Papua New Guinea (1), the Philippines (4), Portugal (2), Sri Lanka (1), Tanzania (1).  This year the Demographic Republic of Congo was added to the list of new countries. 

The Fellows were trained in: Geothermal Geology (5), Geothermal Utilization (5), Reservoir Engineering (5), Chemistry of Thermal Fluids (4), Geophysical Exploration (4), Environmental Science (3), Project Managing and Finance (3), and Drilling Technology (1).
 
During 1979-2015, 613 scientists and engineers from 59 countries have completed the annual six month courses. They have come from countries in Africa (37%), Asia (36%), Central and Eastern Europe (11%), Latin America (15%), and Oceania (1%). Amongst these have been 127 women (21%). 

At the ceremony speeches were given by Lúðvik S. Georgsson, director of the UNU-GTP, Ragnheiður Elín Árnadóttir, the Minister of Industry and Innovation, Guðni Ágústsson, the Director General of the National Energy Authority, and Fardaneh Ravazdezh from Iran on behalf of the graduating class.
