Ban Ki-moon, Secretary-General of the UN meets with UNU-GTP Fellows

Mr Ban Ki-moon, the Secretary-General of the United Nations, visited Iceland from 2-3 of July. During his stay he visited the Hellisheidi power plant to learn about how Icelanders utilise their geothermal resources. He also met with two Fellows from UNU-GTP, Ms Thecla Munanie Mutia from Kenya (PhD student) and Mr Angel Fernando Monroy Parada from El Salvador (Six Month Training), along with the Director, Ingvar B. Fridleifsson and Deputy director, Lúdvík S. Georgsson.

Later that afternon, the Secretary-General held an open lecture at the University of Iceland: "Iceland and the United Nations - Building a sustainable future for all".

The lecture was well attended by Fellows from the UNU Programmes in Iceland as well as politicians and the public.
