Visitors from Fiskaaling in the Faroe Islands
FTP´s six-month training programme is in full swing and during the second week of the introductory module we welcomed visitors from Fiskaaling in the Faroe Islands.
Fiskaaling is a government-owned aquaculture company with the objective of generating knowledge and solutions for sustainable aquaculture in the Faroe Islands. It is also part of the Faroese government’s efforts to implement the Global Goals for Sustainable Development.
Previous meetings between Fiskaaling and GRÓ-FTP have discussed how we might cooperate in terms of capacity building and research in our line of specialisation focusing on Sustainable Aquaculture. With that in mind, our Faroese visitors came to visit the programme, meet the fellows, and accompanied them on a fieldtrip to Grindavík and Staður, MFRI´s aquaculture research station. The fellows received an informative talk on Fiskaaling´s current research and development projects, and our visiting experts were able to listen to presentations on Aquaculture or Capture Fisheries in fellow´s home countries.
The next step in our cooperation will be for the Sustainable Aquaculture fellows to visit Fiskaaling and the Faroe Islands in January during their seven-week specialist line.
